Kind words from our clients

When we explained [what we] wanted… Instead of laughing us out of the room, Matt and the team at Mud sweated every detail, and pushed and pushed and pushed. The end result is testament to their skill, determination and enthusiasm.

Your Web Development Questions Answered

Most of our web development projects take between 10-16 from kickoff to launch. Typically, that's split roughly equally between discovery/design and build, followed by content population, testing and a rigorous go-live. Of course, project complexity is a factor here; some projects can take as little as 8 weeks, whereas more difficult builds could take 20 weeks or even longer.

Beyond complexity, the biggest variable in how long it takes to build a website is content readiness. If a project is running late, it's usually because the content wasn't quite ready to go, not for development reasons.

Every project is unique. Costs depend on the scope, functionality, integrations, and level of design and development required.

After an initial discovery call, we provide a clear, fixed proposal based on your specific needs. Our team is known for its honesty and transparency - if we’re not right for your project, we’ll let you know and introduce you to one of our partners who can help.

Web design and web development are two sides of the same coin. When people refer to web design, they are typically talking about how a site looks and how your users move through it (UX and customer journeys). Web development is what goes on behind the scenes to turn those designs into a functioning, content-managed website.

In reality, people often use the two terms interchangeably. It's rare to get web design without development and vice versa. That's not to say, however, that design isn't sometimes outsourced (and the other way around). However, we always manage both sides of a website build in-house. Splitting the work between two teams often causes communication issues, damaging the end product.

Mud only ever builds websites using Craft CMS. We were one of the first Craft CMS verified partners. That means we are deeply familiar with it as a platform.

The reason why is that Craft CMS is a deeply customisable platform. As a design-first web agency, our platform of choice must give us the freedom to put our clients' brands at the centre of each project.

In short, Craft CMS gives us the power to shape your website around your actual content, instead of forcing it into a generic template or page-builder. Craft CMS also does a greMigrating from WordPress to Craft CMS: A Complete Guideat job of avoiding the plugin sprawl of platforms like WordPress, which has become known for its security flaws.

Absolutely. In fact, a significant proportion of our work comes through the branding and design agencies we partner with. They handle the core brand; we take that work and bring it to the website in a way that realises their vision.

All that is to say that we're used to picking up brand guidelines, working to someone else's creative direction and slotting into existing teams. We don't insist on owning the brand to build the site.

Yes. In fact, WordPress-to-Craft migrations are among our most common projects. And the number is increasing.

What does that look like? We map your existing (or proposed) content structure into a Craft content model, migrate pages, posts, media and users, and put a full (and rigorous) redirect map in place to ensure search rankings carry across rather than being lost.

As we say to all our clients: don't underestimate the value of a good website migration, and the cost of a bad one. Don't miss our comprehensive guide to migrating from WordPress to Craft CMS...

Yes. Craft CMS supports headless implementation via its GraphQL API. That means we can run Craft as the content backend behind a separately built frontend. Headless is particularly good for teams publishing to a website in addition to an app or multiple other channels from a single content source. Headless is getting much more popular, but it isn't always the right solution. We'll tell you when that's the case.

It goes without saying that your website launch is a key milestone in our engagement. But it is rarely the end. We offer ongoing support and optimisation covering Craft and plugin updates, security patching, hosting, performance monitoring and iterative improvement.

Most of our clients stick around on a support package so your site keeps improving, rather than degrading over time. At a bare minimum, keeping your plugins and Craft instance fully updated is absolutely essential to a functioning website that needs to perform well and remain secure through the years.

Yes. In fact, most of our clients are from further afield. While we are based in Bath, we frequently partner with businesses in Bristol and organisations across the UK and internationally. Most projects run remotely, so location is rarely an issue. That said, there are times when being in a room together helps, and that's always accommodated.
